Common Sense tells you - ya gotta be selective as to location. I'm thinkin an outta the way RR that does not get mainstream traffic . . . and may not be "up-to-date" in modernization. A more workable material such as hopefully a wood product. And because it's outta the way location - nobody will be scurrying to "fix" the hole once it's there. The handtool suggestion with newspaper on the floor to catch the sawdust is probably the best way. But don't even think about a high-traffic RR with metal faced wall. Just reading about the creation of a public g-hole excites me. . . . . lol
Back in the old days at the arcades - guys used to start out with a key or small screwdriver carving - first a peephole then over time it would grow into a g-hole. It was a "community effort" You would just do your part when you were in the booth.
